    Speech-Language Pathology


    The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) holds a graduate degree, the Certificate of Clinical Competenc (CCC-SLP) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and a Tennessee state license. The SLP specializes in assessment and treatment of individuals of all ages with communication, cognitive, hearing and/or swallowing problems due to developmental delay, progressive or chronic neurological processes, traumatic brain injury, cancer and other diagnoses.

    The practice of the SLP involves providing:

    • Screening and Evaluation of the patient.
    • Assessment and Diagnosis of all communication, cognitive, and swallowing needs
    • Treatment for all communication, cognitive and swallowing needs
    • Access to state-of-the-art technology and up to date therapy approaches
    • Education and Counseling for the patients, families, caregivers, staff and community
    • Develop strategies for community re-entry
    The Speech-Language Pathologist provides evaluation and treatment for Adult and Pediatric Populations. The SLP scope of Practice include:
    • Speech
    • Language
    • Swallowing
    • Voice
    • Cognitive aspects of communication
    • Sensory awareness related to communication and swallowing.
    • Establishing augmentative and alternative communication techniques and strategies including development, selecting and providing of such systems and devices
    • Hearing screenings
    • Selection and training of assistive listening devices
    • Deep Pharyngeal Neuromuscular Stimulation (DPNS)
    • Vital Stim
    • Tracheotomy management and Passy Muir Valve training/ usage
    • Neuro-Developmental Training (NDT)
    • Education and counseling patients, families, caregivers, and persons in the community
    • Collaboration with and providing referrals to specialist
    • Recognizing and providing appropriate accommodations for individuals from diverse cultural and language backgrounds
